Lighting an airport with the power of the sun… This idea is coming to life in the vast steppes of Eskisehir. Spanning approximately 3 million square meters, the Eskisehir Solar Power Plant (SPP) is not just an energy project; it is becoming a symbol of Turkiye’s vision for a sustainable future.
With a total investment of 212 million euros, this monumental project will have an installed capacity of 199.32 MW upon completion and is expected to generate around 340 million kWh of electricity annually. But beyond these figures, the most remarkable feature of the project is that it will fully meet the energy needs of Istanbul Airport (IGA) through solar power. Scheduled to be commissioned in the last quarter of 2025, the plant will make Istanbul Airport the first major airport in the world to be powered entirely by solar energy.
Leading the development process of this visionary project, Kalyon Cities is pioneering not only the construction of a solar power plant but also the pathway toward Turkiye’s low-carbon future.
